Hey everyone!
So this is my first time starting a blog. I guess I've avoided creating a blog until now, as I always though of them to be a little bit bragging and self indulgent. I think of a friend of mine (Steven Carter) who once said; " Sometimes I feel like posting things on Facebook, and then I think, but wait... who cares!'
Oh well, I caved. My dear sister Anna though that blogging would be a good idea, to stay in the moment with my travels. I do love writing, and have found writing journals to be theraputic. In addition, blogging does seem like a good way to keep friends and family in the loop with what I have been up to, especially while in another country. So here I go!
I'm at Sydney airport, waiting for my flight to Japan, that eventually will lead me to Vilnius, The capital of Lithuania.
I'd consider myself to be a person who has done a fair bit of travel, and a person who likes to experience new things. However, this time around, I am feeling especially nervous.
I think that as we get older, we become more risk adverse, and adverse to change. 2014 was a big year of change for me; buying a new house, completing another University course, many dear friends and family moving interstate, moving houses a few times through and having a relationship go it's separate ways. So in a lot of ways, I felt that my brain couldn't take on any more change, and I wanted to just sit in front of the sofa and watch the tennis all day (not a bad way to spend time, in my opinion).
However, there is never a better time to travel, particularly when you feel that you 'can't'; to broaden horizons, to challenge one's self, to be uncomfertable, to not know where you are going...and to be 'okay' with that.
So here I go, on a 34 hours journey, soon to enter in to minus 25 degree weather with pretty much no appropriate winter clothes, as I accidentally donated them to Salvation Army.
I've decided to treat this trip as a new beginning. I've made conversation with every person that crosses my path, and have been sure to flash them a big smile.
I must say, that I am impressed with how far international travel has come. I have managed to have my luggage checked in all the way to Vilnius! It is a godsend we now have inflight entertainment. Remember the days when there was one, tiny crappy TV hung up halfway through the aisle? Thank goodness those days are done.
I'll miss you all and will be thinking of you each step of the way, while sending my love.
Chat soon.
Love,
Rasa
